Presentation
The Ecomuseum of the Forêt d'Orient is the guardian of our memories and traditions. In it, you will discover the life of the countryside through its habitat and through the occupations of its people. It is a centre dedicated to the richness of our unique local heritage.
The first site, Museum of everyday life (La Maison des Jours et des Champs), brings together a collection of agricultural equipment from recent centuries, and explains rural life in bygone times. You can see how equipment evolved : from primitive ploughs to tractors. In the barns that have been reconstructed on the site you can see the old workshops - the saddler, the carpenter, the rope maker, the wine maker...
The second site, 200m away, at the centre of the hamlet called the Wheelwright's Shop (La Boutique du Charron) is the original workplace of one of the last wheelwrights of the region. It has been left unchanged, and the machines are still in working order. You will find here the equipment that was needed for the maintenance of the ploughs and other agricultural equipment, as well as that for the horses.
Description
Guided tours will give you an insight into a past that is preserved in the collection of local agricultural equipment, and in the traditional tools of craftsmen like the rope maker, the blacksmith or the farrier.
This past moved to the rhythm of a horse's hoof, and the beat of hammer on anvil. Our exhibition is of the life of three centuries, so that you can appreciate that we have invented nothing, just improved what our forefathers created.
