Fishes, a world of scales and fins
Amongst so many different aquatic habitats in the Park, fishes only have to choose ! Some prefer stagnant water, some prefer fresh water with lots of oxygen. Some species can't make a choice but adapt to the condition of their environment.
Fishes from the ponds and the lake
Pounds in the wetlands host 23 of the 130 europeans fresh water fishes. These species are well adapted to stagnant water, which lack of oxygen and tend to be turbid.
The managment of those areas is extensive, meaning not many fishes are put into the water, in order to protect the ecosystem of the pound.
Fishes from the rivers
Pounds are linked to the rivers, especially when the pounds are filled up. Therefore you can find some of the species in both environments. However, some of them, like the trout, will prefere running waters like the river, with more oxygen, freshness, spawning).
