Natural Protected Areas
The diversity of the landscapes linked to a convergence of biogeographical influences(continental, mountain, mediterranean), as well as a privileged situation regarding the main migration routes of European avifauna, give this territory an important heritage value.
The Regional Nature Park constitutes one of the 17 French sites recognized by the international community as a humid zone of international importance, notably for water birds, according to the Ramsar Convention . The Park also has several sites of communal interest that is for the birds or the habitats of the wild flora and fauna. Finally, the Park shelters many zones of national ecological interest , with remarkable animal and plant species, some of which are protected by law.
National Nature Reserve in Forêt d'Orient
National Nature Reserve in Forêt d'Orient was created in 2002 in the middle of the Champagne wetlands. Located 25 km, East-side of Troyes.
Surface : 1560 ha, from which 99% belongs to the Lake-Reservoir Institution. It was classified National Nature Reserve due to its exceptionnal biological wealth,
The State has entrust the management of the Nature Reserve to the Regional Nature Park.
Regulation in the Réserve
In order to preserve the local Fauna and Flora, the National Nature Reserve has to comply with some regulations.
It is not allowed to :
- walk in the reserve
- fish from the shore
- bring in or bring back any flowers, plants, or animals

Access to the Reserve
The National Nature Reserve in Forêt d'Orient is not open to the public. However, some sites have been developed around the Reserve, like the "Valois" Observatory to allow you to contemplate the local fauna and flora.
Some organised tours and newspapers articles also help people to understand better the purpose or the reserve.
