Presentation
Christianity has left us so much but time and our feet have badly worn the floors of our churches. I am a moving witness to this- the tombstone of a married couple. The sculptor who already knew Renaissance decor decorated it with a foliate canopy, a floor in perspective on which rests the helm of the seignior, the faithful greyhound and his wife's gospels. Their names and their coats of arms go all around the border: his name’s Nicolas Rochetaillée, seignior of La Ville-sur-Bois, knight of the Holy Sepulchre, in military dress which suited him, and his dear and tender… no don't dream, she didn't retire here after a substitution, it is not Jehanne d’Arc (like a glance at the engraving of the name would lead us to think), but Jehanne de Amoncourt (the end of family's name has disappeared) she died first on May 23rd, 1496. You can see she is clothed, almost like a nun with that heavy rosary on the belt. What do you want, religion has probably consoled her during the long absences of her husband!
